Ostia, Italy
01/01/03

We were originally planning on heading over to Tivoli to see Hadrian's Villa, but it quickly donned on us that it was New Year's Day and it would not be open. Onto plan "B"...in search of the ocean, the sea actually. The Tyrrhenian Sea to be exact. We rode the train towards the coast. The first three photos are from Ostia Antica (our first stop in search of the sea), where there are some old Roman ruins and castle (but closed due to the holiday). We walked along a lonely dirt path where we came along fields of agriculture and these cute sheep. If you look closely in the third photo, you can see that the sheep are actually scratching themselves on the tree. We also spotted an adorable little brown lamb with a white tail, but no water in sight! Our second stop of the day was in Ostia and SUCCESS! we headed towards the boardwalk where we walked out to the end of the pier to enjoy the beautiful sea water. Then we continued along the boardwalk till we ended up at a newly-developed marina lined with shops and exquisite boats (# 5-6).
