Pompeii, Italy

The city of Pompeii is known by all as the town that was buried in the ash and pumice of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Seeing this once thriving city preserved so well was a truly amazing experience. (photo # 1 & 40: see how happy we are to be in Pompeii? hee.hee.) All jokes aside, this was an absolutely astonishing (and somber) day. Seeing the plaster casts of the Pompeiians--some with their bones visible--was an experience we will always carry with us.

(# 2-4) the Basilica--but it's believed that it was actually used as a place of business, a sort of stock market.

(# 6 & 30) some mosiacs that have survived the years.

(# 8-9 & 26) the Temple of Isis.
(# 12-15) the Large Theater.

(# 15) what was Jessie taking a picture of?
