Notre Dame du Haut Ronchamp, France
03/18/03
This
is Corbusier's Notre Dame du Haut. As you can probably
tell by the number of photos we took, this was one of the major
highlights of our trip. One of the great buildings of the 20th
century, it was amazing to be able to finally experience the interior
of the chapel in person. Having arrived just a few minutes after
opening, we had the chapel all to ourselves for about 40 minutes.
The interior was beautiful and we could not have asked for a more
lovely day to be there.
(Row
1: # 1) our first glimpse of the chapel from the road.
(Row 2: # 5) butterfly on the wall.
(Row 2: # 8) can you see the reflection of the chapel in Nick's
glasses?
(Row 3: # 2) memorial to the French who fell during WWII.
(Row 4: # 2) Corbusier's dated initials on a window.
