The
following photos are of or looking from Stirling Castle-"a huge
brooch clasping Highlands and Lowlands together". Set on a
volcanic crag above the city, you can see the National Wallace Monument.
(Look at the 7th picture from the left on the top row: it's the tower
on the hill in the distance. We unfortunately did not make it out there.)
Mary Queen of Scots spent her childhood here and was crowned in the
Chapel Royal; her son, James VI, was also baptised here. The views from
the castle are beautiful. Check out the 4th picture in the second row:
down below is the King's Knot, which used to be an octagonal platform,
but is now overgrown with vegetation. The last two pictures are of the
Church of the Holy Rude and the Old Town Jail, respectively.
